Why is it worth learning polish?

“I speak Polish. What’s your superpower?” – is something not only native speakers proudly repeat. For many learners, Polish is one of the biggest challenges they have faced in life. Well – seven cases, phonetics, conjugations… – that’s understandable. Despite this, currently over 220,000 people around the world are learning Polish on courses. Why? There are many reasons.

1. Career. It’s good to know Polish

In the era of globalization, Poland is an important business partner in the European Union, and more and more international corporations are appearing on the Polish market, where knowledge of Polish is an additional asset that can determine whether a foreign candidate will be accepted for work. But is it only in Poland that you can find a job with Polish? No! Knowledge of Polish is valued and profitable all over the world. On international recruitment platforms such as Indeed, Jooble and LinkedIn, the search for candidates who speak this language is ongoing.

2. Building relationships is a great way to learn Polish.

Knowing Polish is key to understanding people, but also to gaining their trust and earning their respect. A conversation in a store, on the street, or in an office is more satisfying for both parties if you can conduct it in Polish. Don’t worry about mistakes – remember that the goal is successful communication, not a perfectly spoken sentence. Poles are naturally cautious, but when they see effort, they open up and quickly bridge the gap. Moreover, they are well aware that their language is not easy, so a foreigner speaking Polish always impresses them. Sometimes even a simple “hello” and “thank you” can break the ice.

3. A Doorway to Understanding Literature and Film

Wisława Szymborska, Czesław Miłosz, Olga Tokarczuk – these are just a few names that make Poland proud around the world. Literature lovers will undoubtedly attest that translations are good, but nothing compares to the satisfaction of reading the original. Film buffs need no introduction to Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Kieślowski, or Agnieszka Holland – directors who have made significant contributions to the history of Polish film and theatre. And while the film can be viewed with voiceover or subtitles, it’s in the original that we can discern linguistic nuances and difficult-to-translate idioms.

And finally… Is it worth learning Polish?

There’s only one correct answer to the question of whether learning Polish is worth it – yes! It’s an investment in yourself, in your relationships, and in your future. Knowing this language opens the door to understanding a world you wouldn’t even experience with the best subtitles.
