Wycieczka do Łodzi

As every year, the summer holidays in KLUB DIALOGU is a time full of attractions, events, meetings, and fun! In addition to intensive, summer Polish language courses, we warmly invite you to special events that take place from June to August.

Summer Holidays in KLUB DIALOGU Polish Language School

Orientarium in Łódź

We started our series of events on 4th June with a trip to the city of Łódź, to the Orientarium. The Orientarium is a very modern zoo, inhabited not only by land animals, but also aquatic animals, such as sharks, rays, as well as corals, anemones, and others. We definitely recommend it! Read the account from the event and see the photos.

Filmowy Piąteczek/Film Friday – watching films in Polish

The next meeting was FILM FRIDAY, which took place in our school. This is already a tradition of KLUB DIALOGU. During this event, we watch Polish films with English subtitles, and after the film we discuss cultural differences and life in different parts of the world. A perfect and attractive way of learning Polish for everyone!

Move well to the beat of the music

We love to dance! And you? If you share this passion or you like to watch others move to the rhythm of the music, we invite you for outdoor SALSA at the La Playa Beach club by the Vistula River or at the Silent Disco at the Studio Bar. We guarantee a great impression! ?

Birthday of the Polish Language School for Foreigners KLUB DIALOGU

As every year, the most important event for us is the birthday of our KLUB DIALOGU School. We always invite you to celebrate with us at the beginning of July! You can expect a lot of fun during this unique meeting! You can even win very attractive prizes! You cannot miss it.

Canoeing trip – go downstream the Wkra River. Relax

On 16th July we will go canoeing. 30km from Warsaw there is a beautiful river, Wkra, and this is the river that we will be able to go down for 2 hours, enjoying basking in nature. We will end the day with a barbecue, beach sports, and a well-deserved rest! If you want, we will speak in Polish. It will be like a little Polish lesson.

Night Breakfast Bar and what else?

The Night Breakfast Bar is a trendy place for real ‘foodies’, with stalls serving local and international street food such as skewers, burgers, tacos, and pizza. Eat, play, and taste after sunset in good company!

What else awaits us? Playing boardgames by the Vistula River, Chopin’s concert in the Łazienki Park, and bowling!

Be sure to check the calendar of events for 2022. Like our fb KLUB DIALOGU page and stay up to date! Bring your family and friends with you and have fun with us!

gramatyka polskiego

Polish language grammar is largely associated with suffixes – should I be afraid?

For a large group of students, one of the most difficult aspects of Polish grammar is declension, that is – the changing endings of nouns and adjectives. Why does one word have multiple versions? There are languages – for example, the most popular language in the world – English, in which we can use one word in many ways, e.g. ‘coffee’ – I like coffee. I don’t like coffee. I dream about coffee. With a coffee in hand across the world. So in any sentence construction a given word is used in the same form.

In Polish grammar, however, the situation looks different. In Polish the word ‘kawa’ (coffee) – in those same constructions like above in English is like this: ‘Lubię kawę’ (accusative – I like coffee). ‘Nie lubię kawy’ (genitive – I don’t like coffee). ‘Z kawą przez świat’ (instrumental – with a coffee in hand across the world).

This is all the fault of declension, meaning the variation by 7 ‘cases’: Nominative, Genitive, Accusative, Dative, Instrumental, Locative, and Vocative, in Polish: Mianownik, Dopełniacz, Biernik, Celownik, Narzędnik, Miejscownik, and Wołacz.

Polish grammar: Accusative – it isn’t so bad after all!

Today we’ll focus on one of the ‘cases’ – the one we use when saying: I like coffee, I have coffee, coffee please, I drink coffee (lubię kawę, mam kawę, proszę kawę, piję kawę).

We use the accusative form after verbs such as: to have, like, eat, drink, buy, read, know, watch, ask, order, visit, want, prefer, adore (mieć, lubić, jeść, pić, kupować, czytać, znać, oglądać, prosić, zamawiać, zwiedzać, mieć ochotę na, preferować, uwielbiać).

In Polish language grammar, the feminine forms in the accusative take the following forms: Lubię czarną kawę. Mam czerwoną toyotę. Piję zieloną herbatę. Jem zupę pomidorową. (I like black coffee. I have a red Toyota. I drink green tea. I eat tomato soup). So the noun ends in “” and the adjective with “”.

In masculine and neutral form, the noun and adjective remain in their infinitive form. For example: ‘duży dom’ (big house – masculine form) – kupuję duży dom (I’m buying a big house); ‘nowy samochód’ (new car – masculine) –  on ogląda nowy samochód (he’s looking at a new car); ‘zimne piwo’ (cold beer – neutral form) – oni zamawiają zimne piwo (they’re ordering a cold beer); ‘małe radio’ (small radio – neutral) – mam małe radio (I have a small radio). Ah! It’s not complicated!

But in Polish grammar, the exceptions are the most important…

A small problem arises when our friend says: ‘Mam ochotę na hamburgera!’ (I fancy a hamburger), ‘Preferuję pomidora niż ogórka!’ (I prefer tomato over cucumber)’. How?? Wait a moment! Hamburger, tomato, cucumber are all in the masculine form in Polish! So why don’t we say: ‘Mam ochotę na hamburger’, ‘Preferuję pomidor niż ogórek’?!? We’ll explain! ? In Polish grammar, there is a group of inanimate masculine nouns (things, not people) that take the ending “-a” in the accusative. Most of them are borrowings from other languages.

The exceptions are:

  1. Food, e.g.:– hamburger’ – Mam ochotę na hamburgera.
  2. Fruits and vegetables, e.g.: ‘banan’, ananas’, ‘arbuz’ (banana, pineapple, watermelon)– Na śniadanie zawsze jem banana. Uwielbiam ananasa i arbuza. (For breakfast I always eat banana. I adore pineapple and watermelon).
  3. Car brands, e.g.: ‘mercedes’, ford’ – Mój kolega kupił mercedesaMarek ma forda. (My friend bought a Mercedes. Marek has a Ford).
  4. Currencies, e.g.: ‘dolar’, ‘funt’ (dollar, pound)– Mam tylko dolara. Pożycz mi jednego funta. (I only have a dollar. Lend me a pound).
  5. Dances, e.g.: ‘walc’  (Waltz) – Oni pięknie tańczą walca angielskiego. (They dance the English Waltz beautifully).
  6. Games, e.g.: ‘squash’, ‘golf’ – Czy lubisz grać w squasha? Często gram w golfa. (Do you like playing squash? I often play golf).
  7. Substances, e.g. ‘papieros’, ‘szampan’(cigarette, champagne) – Palę papierosa. On pije szampana. (I’m smoking a cigarette. He’s drinking champagne).

Conclusion: Polish language grammar is not that scary, and the Polish language course at KLUB DIALOGU School is a great place to practice.

Accusative isn’t so bad after all ?. Sometimes, we simply have to organise and consolidate our knowledge. The Polish language course at KLUB DIALOGU School is the right place to not only repeat and systematise this knowledge, but also practice and polish the grammatical structures of the Polish language. You can find out more about accusative (biernik) HERE.

THE 3T’s – WE SUGGEST HOW TO LEARN POLISH EFFECTIVELY

Today is January 2022 – you’ve probably heard this question: ‘Do you have a New Year’s resolution?’ Although on the one hand, you say to yourself: ‘Enough of these resolutions, of which nothing comes from’, you subconsciously wonder, what will be your priority this year? Therefore, if learning Polish is an important goal for you that you would like to focus on in 2022, here are our suggestions on how to effectively achieve it!

THE 3 T’s: TARGET, TIME, THANKS

TARGET

Research shows that a target should be defined, realistic and measurable, which means that when learning Polish, it is worth to first clarify your current knowledge of the language, and then determine the level that you would like to achieve in the given time. It is essential for the success of this target that the level you want to achieve is reasonable. There is nothing more frustrating about learning a foreign language than imagining yourself as a participant in a lively conversation once you have only just started your Beginner Polish course. Setting a high goal for yourself causes unnecessary stress and troubles.

So what to do? Verify your current level, which you can check by taking a test or come to the Polish Language School KLUB DIALOGU and talk to the teacher. At the beginning, take up small challenges. Depending on your needs, try to define your progress at the level of 2-3 modules, so that you always have the opportunity to adjust these achievements and set new goals. You will not pass the State B1 Certificate Exam immediately, but by taking small steps, you have a great chance to do so in the future!

TIME

Time is a very important element in achieving our targets, as it allows us to concentrate on the task at hand and prevents postponing it ‘for an eternal tomorrow’. As in the case of the target, time must be realistic, i.e. give us space to complete the full cycle of the process: learning, practice, and feedback. Properly defined time forces us to be specific and organised. Remember, however, that too short a time frame will not allow you to complete the process, and too long a time frame will blur its possibilities, and after some time you will not remember your priorities.

THANKS

Don’t ignore the powerful influence of another person on your Polish language learning process. We instinctively hide our ‘resolutions’ from others because it protects us from embarrassment if something goes wrong. The involvement of other people, however, in our learning has a huge impact on its effectiveness. The support and feedback of people you can rely on can be very useful and can strengthen relationships, and thanks to this your learning will become more regular and consistent. It’s like losing weight, where positive support – from anguish – can turn into a healthy habit. Thanks to others, we can often achieve our goals!

Additionally, it is best to use qualified assistance. This is where the Polish Language School for Foreigners KLUB DIALOGU comes in handy, which offers a wide range of courses at various levels and intensity.

EVENTS

THE KAYAKING ADVENTURE. WKRA 2023

The canoeing adventure as usual gave us a lot of positive energy for the next days. At the beginning, we were going slowly down the river Wkra for about 2,5 hours. During that time we explored nature being as close as possible to it, watching birds and small insects around us. Even those, who were kayaking for the first time in their lives managed to make it and ended their adventure with smiles and happiness.

After kayaking we had a barbeque and played volleyball and other outdoor games. It was a fantastic day! Thank you for being with us!

See the pictures below.

KD’s 19th BIRTHDAY PARTY. IT HAPPENED!

Thank you all for coming to the Birthday Party. We hope that everyone enjoyed the atmosphere of a little forgotten Slavic holiday of summer and love ❤ There was a lot of laughter during the blind date, delicious cake, and endless conversations together!
We believe that this event aroused the curiosity of Polish traditions!

See the movie below.

SUMMER TIME, LOVELY TIME

Summer is a special time. It is a time of work, meeting friends, and relaxation. At KLUB DIALOGU School it’s a time of intensive learning of the Polish language, and fun during summer events! We hope your vacation time was good and interesting too!

See the movie: summer at KLUB DIALOGU 2022

ORIENTARIUM – A TRIP TO THE ZOO IN ŁÓDŹ

We started our series of events ‘SUMMER 2022’ on 4th June with a trip to the city of Łódź, to the Orientarium. The Orientarium is a very modern zoo, inhabited not only by land animals, but also aquatic animals, such as sharks, rays, as well as corals, anemones, and others. We definitely recommend it!

After visiting the Zoo, we walked along the longest street in Łódź – Piotrkowska. We are glad that you were with us!

EASTER MEETING ‘SOLIDARITY WITH UKRAINE’ IN KLUB DIALOGU

Bunny rabbits, lambs, painted eggs, and special cut-outs – all this was in the EASTER BASKET after the event organised last Friday by the Polish Language School for Foreigners KLUB DIALOGU. This unique meeting attracted over 30 people: big, medium-sized, and the smallest ones, who were equally passionate about preparing Easter decorations by themselves.

Even before the start of ‘handicrafts’, our teacher Wioletka conducted a charming and interesting phonetic workshop of the Polish language, introducing us to the secrets of Polish pronunciation, using the example of Easter vocabulary!

The whole event was dedicated to our Ukrainian friends. In this way, we wanted to express our solidarity and support, and express our wishes for peace and the happy return of a free country, although there are no words that would seem appropriate in this situation…

As always, we warmly invite you to our Polish language courses. KLUB DIALOGU school creates a unique atmosphere, building a one-of-a-kind, multicultural community.

FILM FRIDAY IS ALREADY OUR TRADITION…

… and our passion! These are cyclical meetings organised for students by KLUB DIALOGU, during which we present Polish films with English subtitles. These films are important for social, political and cultural reasons, and thanks to them we try to show our students the history, tradition and mentality of Poles over the last 70 years. During these exciting meetings, we not only watch movies, but also discuss. FILM FRIDAY is also an excellent activity within learning the Polish language, supplementing Polish courses at the school. MARCH OF SOLIDARITY WITH REFUGEES

We, employees of KLUB DIALOGU, which is not only an educational institution, but also a Polish language school for foreigners, and a place for meetings, conversations, and exchange of experiences between people from different continents and cultures, cannot accept violations of the law and international conventions and situations where medical aid for refugees is refused, risking their health and even death.  Read more >>

SUMMER 2021. THANK YOU FOR BEING WITH US!

Saying goodbye to summer is never easy, and summer 2021 is already behind us.  Luckily, after a one-year break, we managed to organise a summer calendar full of KLUB DIALOGU events.  Despite the worldwide pandemic, many difficulties and limitations, we spent this time very intensively and effectively, and the return of our side events sweetened us even more than usual!  So what’s so special about this summer?  Read more >>

CANOEING

Canoeing is already a tradition part of KLUB DIALOGU summer events.  We have already canoed the Świder and Wkra rivers (2 times), and now our brave students have tried their hand at the Pilica river.  Fortunately, you don’t have to be a seasoned canoeist to spend an unforgettable day close to nature, surrounded by ducks, swans and aquatic plants.  36 brave canoeists, having successfully reached their destination, spent then time by the fire, roasting sausages, playing football and volleyball, and of course talking in 100 languages of the world!  ?.  Thank you and see you next year!

INTENSIVE PHONETIC TRAINING

Is the pronunciation of Polish sounds difficult for you?  Which sounds are the most complicated for you?  We know that the Polish language can be a challenge, so in the evening, after lessons, we invited students for an INTENSIVE PHONETIC TRAINING by the Wisła River.  Besides learning, it was great fun!  Students had the opportunity to practice such popular expressions as: cieszę się, dzięki! wstrząśnięty, lecz nie zmieszany, jestem szczególnie uszczęśliwiony, Kasia płaciła przy kasie za kaszę. ?

12 + 5 BIRTHDAY OF CLUB DIALOGU

On 2nd July, KLUB DIALOGU celebrated its 12 + 5th BIRTHDAY.  Why 12 + 5?  Well, the school was founded 17 years ago, so we have extensive experience in teaching Polish as a foreign language, but for 5 years it has been managed by new owners, Viola and Piotr, who gave the School a modern chic makeover and bring a lot of loveliness to the place!

Over 50 people came to our birthday party!  It was thanks to our wonderful students that it was an amazing evening full of attractions, conversations, making new friends and laughter. There was also a birthday cake and champagne.  And finally – a surprise!  THE CIRCLE OF FORTUNE, where with every ticket came a prize.  The biggest attraction for 12 people was a voucher for their next course.  Congratulations!

CHRISTMAS WORKSHOPS AT KLUB DIALOGU

On Friday 11th December 2020, a long-awaited event took place at KLUB DIALOGU! (of course, with safety precautions). Our new teachers: Zosia and Irenka prepared a Christmas program. We learned new words and traditions from Poland and other countries, we decorated gingerbread cookies and sang Christmas carols. It was very nice and we had a lot of fun! We are waiting for the good times of the regular events to return, during which there will be a lot of us and everyone will have a great time.

KLUB DIALOGU GOES CANOEING

We embarked on our 3rd annual canoeing adventure at the weekend, 6th July,. We canoed down the beautiful river Wkra for around 2 hours. Once we reached our destination we ate a grill, talked all together and played volleyball. Even despite the rainy weather, it was a really fantastic trip full of laughs. We want to thank those who came who made it another event not to forget in a hurry, and for those who couldn’t make it, we welcome you to our next events!

THE 3RD ANNIVERSARY of KLUB DIALOGU

KLUB DIALOGU turned 3 under its new ownership of Viola and Piotr and on Friday we celebrated in style at the school! A lot of guests came amongst whom were our great students, teachers and friends and family.

The main attraction of the night was our game ‘Students have talent’. There were 3 teams of students and the game consisted of different categories, such as ‘advertisements’ where different products such as toilet paper, sausages and toothpaste had to be advertised (it was really amazing!!), ‘karaoke’ and ‘tongue twisters’. Our panel of judges had to award points to each team based on their performance.

Next we ate really delicious cake complete with our logo making it all the more special.

Finally we went on to giving out the awards. These prizes were awarded to: students who have studied at KLUB DIALOGU from A0 level up to B1, to ‘exceptionally loyal students’ as well as to our outstanding teachers and staff members.

Thank you all for making it a terrific birthday and for being with us! We are so proud of you all and of our school!

KLUB DIALOGU GOES BOWLING

Klub Dialogu went bowling and we had a blast 😉 learning Polish is never boring, but with us you can always GUARANTEE fun twists, turns and adventures along the way.

VALENTINE`S DAY

IT WAS NOT JUST A REGULAR EVENING – IT WAS VALENTINE`S!

In what other Polish school can you play ‘blind date’, dance on newspaper and receive letters from a secret admirer? My guess is only in Klub Dialogu ?

On Friday, 15th we hosted our Valentines event and it was, of course, a lot of fun. We first played 4 rounds of ‘blind date’ (‘randka w ciemno’) and the winners together with their match of each round went on to play other small games… the winners received a voucher of 100zł for a cafe. The voucher was cut into two pieces, however, so in order to redeem the prize, the pair has to go there together!! ? ?

We later on opened letters that we received from secret admirers ? that they had put in our Valentines Box during the past couple of weeks in school.

It was another beautiful event and we hope to see you all on the next one! Thank you for coming ? and now have a look at the pictures to see our event for yourselves!

INDEPENDENCE DAY

Our event on Friday, 9th 2018 was such a success. Thank you to everyone that came and made it so special – how wonderful to celebrate 100 year anniversary with you all! We played ‘kalambury’ (charades), and had a quiz about Poland.
What’s more, thank you to everyone who made a video/photo contribution for our competition. Congrats to Alex who won!!
